I was with my dervish and starting Tihark Orchid and was wondering why the Skree were 1-shotting me

I then noticed I was still in my 130hp gear

Guess I'll spill the beans...

I made a new warrior when Factions came out. Was real into him and decked him out in awesome gear including a set of FoW.

Then I got bored with him, salvaged all his gear, and deleted him. He had to go because I was running out of slots and didn't want two warriors - and I missed my old Tyrian war.

Wasn't really a loss to funds, since there's nothing better to spend it on anyways.

Deleting my oldest character, a warrior with 15k Kurzick armor, Perfect Chaos Axe, Long Sword and his WHOLE inventory full with uniques like Stonereaper, Strongroot Shelter, Spiriteater and lots of bows.
Somehow I mistook him for a PvP character...

Then I traded a Hand of the Forgotten to someone but I was only showing it, somehow I clicked on accept trade and it was gone... At the time they were still like 80kish

And someone scammed a Amulet of the mists off me paying 30g instead of 30k, tho thats not selfownage actually.

The deleted warrior set me back about 300-400k i guess :S

Unhappy

#1. Set up Charr for death-levelling in Pre-Sear Northlands.... before the modifications to normal mode behaviour when HM was introduced. Had an almost perfect set-up with just one Shaman to get rid of before it could properly start.
Went to attack the Shaman.... Shaman kited. I chased. Shaman ran through the gate. I pressed back just after passing the white haze. Ended up back on the south side of the gate again.
I promptly Ragequit and didn't bother with my Pre-Sear character for several weeks after that.

#2. The point where I'd spent forever farming cash and materials... Alliance Battling myself half to death for Amber.... all to get 15k Kurzick armour for my Assassin.... and mis-clicked. I got the Infiltrators (+10 versus Piercing) rather than Nightstalkers (+15 while attacking) ... and was absolutely devastated.... UNTIL a particularly nice member of these boards came along and actually gave me all I needed to get a replacement. I had that Infiltrator's guise in my storage for months and recently sold it when the Insignia system became available through all campaigns.

#3. When I figured I'd try farming the Mantids outside Nahpui Quarter (in Waijun Bazaar) with my 55 Monk in Hard Mode.... since they drop the same stuff as Nahpui Quarter enemies (good chance of Celestials)....
I reckoned without about half of the whole damned mob having: [skill]Gaze of Contempt[/skill] ... I've never seen my monk explode so fast.

#4. The Req.9 Gold Inscribable Crude Shield that apparently is worth over 100k that I got while farming for Colossal Scimitars.... and merched. I only found out its value in retrospect. I've doubtless done it with loads of other golds too... but I have learnt. I'm still holding a few valuable Req.9 15^50 swords and stuff in storage.

#5. The three times (not once... not twice... but thrice) that I've rather dim-wittedly ran through the gate to the enemy camp in Alliance Battles and got hit with the -999 instakill. Nothing makes you feel quite so stupid as that. Admittedly, I have managed to lure no less than 10 people to their death the same way before.... so I'm not the only idiot out there to have done it. Possibly the only one who has done it three times though.

I might add others if I remember them later.

I do tend to pwn myself in one way or other on a regular basis though.

Of course the ultimate Anti-Pwn... the most beneficial mistake I ever made.... was when I first went to fight the Doppelganger, and accidentally ran in there with my Shadow Form running build. For a while I couldn't understand why I was doing no damage to him.... until his health dropped to about 40 and I one-hit-killed him.
If I'd actually engaged my brain, I would have equipped a tough build (not knowing how the guy worked) and actually got my arse handed to me.

Hmz, not too much, but I sold that 'useless' -50hp cesta to the merchant because it seemed so worthless. (No, I never heared about 55hp monks when I played my first char through Tyria.)

I once sold a rare dagger for 10K... the guy then told me it was worth 400K

When I was new to the game and found a sup vigor, got scammed and sold it for 1K to a guy..then found out it was worth about 90K (The good old days when sup vigor was worth something)

I stripped a sword for the mod, the sword was worth way.. way much more.

Here are two of my worst examples:

1. Deleting my original, 9 month character. He was the very first I created, and I deleted him for absolutely no good reason, with all of his armor and weapons still on him. Furthermore, just a day before his deletion, I got him brand new 15k armor.

2. Attempting to reconfigure the 9 month character's replacement after a few months of gameplay, I look at the wikipedia to figure out a unique combination of 15k armor, but proceed to screw up, so I end up salvaging a few 15k armor pieces, and then deciding I liked them anyway so I re-buy them. An 80-90k armor set ended up costing almost 200k.

And to top it all off, I salvaged the helmet part after getting an obsidian helm three days later.

Ahh yes, I set up an Earth Ele hammer warrior for RA, I put all of the green hammers I owned. Was about a dozen of them. Deleted without thinking when I needed another PVP char rolled. Thankfully it was hammer's and not something that tends to sell for alot, but spent ALOT of time getting them via Tombs and Sorrows.

And what precisely is wrong with that?

Now it allows you to tank ridiculously HUGE mobs of melee monsters at once because only three of them will be attacking you at once, and you can keep one of them pinned there by attacking him back.
Without the AoE scatter, Gates of Kryta Hard Mode farm wouldn't be feasible.... nor the uber Skale mob in Fahranur The First City (HM).

I disagree, gates of kyrta HM is a pain as a 55 monk anyway, and it is possible and faster with terra tank ele.

On topic, my worst self ownage is probably when I didn't know how to salvage runes from armor, and got not one but 3 superior vigor runes on armor and merched them all (when they were ~90k)... the good thing about this was that i didn't know I had just lost a potential 250k for a few weeks, so I didn't beat myself up about it

Deleting my first character, was a mesmer with 15k Enchanter, forgot to take runes of the armor and a few weeks later something called "first birthday" mini-pets started to appear.

Forgetting cap sig, having the wrong second profession while capping and selling wrong items (black dye for 1g) to a merchant have happened, but don't think they are as bad.
